Vintage Ladder LOVE

We always are attracted to old ladders. They are fun and very versatile to decorate with for the imaginative person. Probably surprisingly to many of you though they are one of the items we get the most "What do people want those old things for??" questions, when they see them leaning against the side of my house. Thought I would show you a few of my favourite....things to do with ladders of all shapes and sizes.

A collectors passion...Anvils.

As I have mentioned before one of the loveliest things I find about what we do is being able to share in the collections of our customers. I get true excitement when I find an item I know, will in turn, bring joy to a collector. Some of these collectors I have never met and live many, many miles away.
Such is the case with collector Lincoln Wolfe who collects small anvils. An anvil is a basic tool. In the simplest terms it is a block with a hard surface on which another object is struck. The inertia of the anvil allows the energy of the striking tool to be transferred to the work piece. In most cases the anvil is used as a forging tool. Before the advent of modern welding technology, it was a primary tool of metal workers. From memory I think Lincoln has purchased a couple directly from me but also, every now and then I get a lovely email from Lincoln asking me to help ship a new little anvil he has tracked down through ebay to his United States home. This is for two reasons, firstly some sellers do not like to mail out of Australia and also anvils look deceivingly easy to properly package. Due to their incredible weight they need to be firmly packed in several boxes using very hard cardboard and a massive amount of heavy duty tape. The seller mails them to me and then I repack and send them on. Lincoln has kindly set me these pictures of some of his collection...I must say I just love the old work bench he uses as a desk and it is perfect for displaying part of his collection.
His puss cat, one of many, obviously finds them a good spot to survey the room. My thanks to Lincoln for sending me these pictures to share with you.

The things people say.....

Sons friend " Katherine.....what's with the horse head in the car???"
Husband to wife " Honey...when you get a chance can you just check out that mower????"

Husband to wife 20 minutes later. 'Oh.....and honey can you just check out those bikes ? .....that's sort of your thing.' ( I mean please when did fixing old bikes and mowers become someone's thing..lol)

"Mum can I have a lift?" ...."Yes ..but first can you just put those dummies under the house?"
Alas every day there is something that comes out of someone's mouth in our house that if you stop and think you'd say..."did I just say or hear that ?" thank goodness we have lovely neighbours other wise they may just wonder...."What's going on next door?"

New Cabinet for my little treasures and its raining lemons....

I purchased this darling little cabinet recently to house my little bits and bobs and finally took it to the Cottage Garden Nursery at East Brisbane on Monday. I can now stock some of my favorite little items such as brooches, toy cars and vintage buckles.
Art Deco dinner gong.

I also wanted to show you a recent snap of the coffee shop at the Woolloongabba Antique Centre. No its not raining lemons....but don't they look fab!! It is such a fun place and new displays are always coming and going to keep us all entertained and inspired. Hope you are all having a lovely day.Email boathome@bigpond.net.au
