Friday favourite~ Buttons!!

I LOVE Vintage Buttons. I rarely do anything with them and I don't collect them but as Kristen will confirm, when I get a tin or jar of old buttons I will waste many good working hours pouring over them and examining them for pretty glass ones or unusual shapes etc. The other day I had an idea to create some interesting shoes using buttons. I purchased a couple of cheap pairs of ballet flats and because they were cheap, they were very easy to sew buttons onto. Sewing buttons on is, I must say, one of my only sewing skills, if you could even call it a skill. So now I have found another way to waste time in the love of buttons.

3 non white Bakelite tube radios

None of these old radios were originally white. For some reason someone painted them all white, the first two are brown underneath, while the one with its innards out is a speckled green.

Friday favourite ~ Glass Flowers

Todays Friday favourite is my glass blown flowers. They date from the 1930's or so. I have collected them over the years and it is always a nice surprise to come across them, normally stuck in with old plastic ones at estates. Over the years I have found curled ones harder to find but the first time I came across them there was quite a few curled ones in an old vase but thanks to the males in my house I now only have one curled one left. I guess that is what happens when you believe things should be enjoyed and not shut away.

Fixer uppers

In an old house today the first things and really the best things, were the 1950's lighthouse table lamp and the Art Deco, nude lady, business card stand. Sadly both have their problems. The lighthouse is missing its roof and the dramatic lady has come loose from her base.

Friday favourite ~ Capturing the moment.

This is my favourite photo. It is of my mother in law Grace and her first husband on the steps of the church on their wedding day. It is evidence that a picture speaks a thousand words. They both look so radiant. Why don't brides still have bouquets like this?...soo beautiful. Her husband was to lose his life as a result of injuries he sustained during the Second World War, yet here they are looking so excited, and he so proud, on the start of what was to be only a short life together.

Friday favourite ~ Movies

Today I thought I would share two of my favourite movies. We all have them, those ones we watch over and over and never tire of. For me the list is huge. T of my favourites are pictured here. Are you like me and find yourself watching the background, the setting, pointing out an architectural feature or a potted geranium that you love. I even have a chest, that Kristen I know does not like, that was my first ever purchase. It was when I was 12 and endlessly watching Fred Astaire movies. I dreamnt that he may have sat on it as the company that sold it was on 5th Avenue in New York. Just the sort of place I thought Fred would shop at.
